Some people think that Yoga and trekking in the Himalayas is a climbing trip where they have to negotiate rocky cliffs, thick jungles uncharted routes. But this is not so. There are routes from one village to the other.

Phone photo from the way down. We saw the beauty and the beast on Everest this season. And as our team ran sweep as the only ones on the north and south side, we were the final humans to trek the final moments after the masses retreated. I was able to recognize how the privilege of being there was only afforded as a temporary pass if I transmitted nothing less than the raw, unencumbered truth. Stay tuned.

Imja Tse, better known as Island Peak, is a mountain in Sagarmatha National Park of the Himalayas of eastern Nepal. The peak was named Island Peak in 1953 by members of the British Mount Everest expedition because it appears as an island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche. The peak was later renamed in 1983 to Imja Tse but Island Peak remains the popular choice. The peak is actually an extension of the ridge coming down off the south end of Lhotse Shar.

Repost @eliasaikaly A little dose of time lapse magic from the Himalayas.
.
Mt. Lobuche is a high altitude trekking peak that is the destination of climbers seeking to summit a 6000m mountain to gain experience in preparation for higher and more technical peaks. It’s often used as training ground by Everest climbers hoping to minimize rotations through the Khumbu Icefall. The reward from the top are some pretty extraordinarily views of Everest, Lhotse and Makalu. We camped out on the summit for 3 nights to capture these breathtaking views.
.
I’ve been quietly building out my stock footage library for the past 8 months. Laboriously sorting through thousands of images like these ones, pulling them together all in one place. Whether in my office, on the road, in an airport or from Everest this past season, it’s been my labour of love side hustle to make all of these images available for anyone to use. I’m excited to announce that we are just about ready to launch. Looking forward to sharing the results with all of you.
.
For now, enjoy the magic of the Himalayas with views of the night skies from one of Nepal’s most accessible summits.

Repost @eliasaikaly The Hillary Step comparison series from 2019 and 2013. So what happened and is it still there?
.
The iconic crux of Mt. Everest at 28,700ft above sea level was first climbed in 1953 by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. In 2015, after the Nepal Earthquake it was rumored to have broken off. So did it? What’s left of it? And how has it changed the final climb? Some of you have asked, and while others have covered this, I thought I’d post a few of my own pics and share my experience.
.
The short answer is it’s no longer what it was. It’s clear by looking at the photos here that a large piece of the rock is no longer there. What used to be a very difficult section for some has become significantly easier to climb.
.
Although tragic in that it’s an important historical and arguably defining characteristic of Mt. Everest, the aftereffect of the Earthquake has made the climb safer. It’s now easier to ascend, quicker to navigate, time spent in this highly exposed area is lessened and there are fewer bottlenecks while climbers access the final path to the summit.
.
Regardless of how many permits are issued, there will always be sections of the mountain that require more time to negotiate. The Hillary Step is one of them. Even with a single line, two way traffic is now possible as seen in photograph number one. In the past, secondary rappel lines were in place, but few dared to use them.
.
I’m very grateful to have been able to climb it with previous team members closer to how it may have been when Everest was first scaled back in 1953.
.
The 3rd photo is me on the Step in 2013, alone on top, camera in hand, in position to film ‘Everest - The Summit Climb’ which has rare footage of climbers ascending the Step shot from above. Video is linked in my bio.
.
I’d be interested to hear how you see the comparison photographs and what your thoughts and feelings are when you view these images.

People throughout the country are celebrating Asar Pandra, also regarded as National Paddy Plantation Day by using planting paddy in their fields. The day is determined with the aid of singing and dancing in the standard folks songs in the rice transplantation program. The day is also marked via feasting on a combination of curd and crushed rice, popularly known as Dahi-Chiura (yogurt and beaten rice).

Repost @eliasaikaly The knife-edge ridge below the summit of Everest.
.
A cornice is an overhanging edge of snow on a ridge or crest of a mountain. On Everest, this ridge towers freely over Nepal and Tibet. It’s mesmerizing to take in with your own eyes and can be intimidating as the path to the top is less than two feet wide.
.
Because of the volume of climbers this year and the responsibility I had of filming the expedition, I was making decisions every 5 seconds while navigating it to determine how I was going to get the shots I needed, while working with the speed of ascent which was quite fast.
.
Imagine, the strongest of Sherpas were setting the pace for our team, thinking only of everyone’s safety including their own. It was a game of shoot and run. Insert battery, roll camera, remove battery and race ahead. At one point, not wanting to slow anyone down, I climbed up on the cornice just off the path and @garrettmadison1 who observed this quickly said ‘Careful. I wouldn’t climb too high as it might break off.’
.
This is a close up of one of the ribs of the formidable and iconic obstacle you must overcome while climbing at the altitude of 747 Jetliner.
.
When I look at this image I marvel at how crazy humans are to subject themselves to this kind of environment. Dressed in down, struggling to survive, all for the chance to stand on a rock that towers above all else. Where I once thought this was an unattainable dream has oddly now become my comfort zone and work environment. Life is a such wild ride of infinite possibly.
