We drove all the way to Abraham Lake for these bubbles without knowing if the lake was going to be covered in snow. Fortunately, the wind was strong and the bubbles were exposed 😁! These frozen bubbles are a rare phenomenon where the decaying plants on the lake bed create methane gas getting trapped in bubbles as the lake begins to freeze.
I awoke today with the anticipation of falling snow and looked outside and was thrilled to see white everywhere, a fresh clean blanket of pristine fluffy snow covering the dirty roads, and making the trees look amazing. We went out to this parkland area called the Experimental Farm (sounds creepy but it’s not) and went for a walk down some uncleared roads, knee-deep in the snow and it was falling everywhere, and so bitterly cold. At -18C it was warmer than yesterday but still……when the wind hits your face, you know it! I was actually too cold to bother setting up a tripod and I even struggled with taking the lens cap off as it was so stiff and frozen, but I had to get some shots of these gorgeous stick trees OMG LOOK HOW BEAUTIFUL THEY ARE!!! And now I know that it’s not only still vast expanses of water surrounding stick trees that I love, but snow as well………..what a perfect minimalistic Canadian morning! xx
