A new deal to get Esteban Ocon to drive for Renault from the coming Formula 1 season seems imminent. This also secures the future of Valtteri Bottas at Mercedes. ~
There already is an agreement with which Esteban Ocon can make his comeback in Formula 1 in 2020. Esteban Ocon will go to Renault for two years to become Daniel Ricciardo's teammate there.
That promotion would also mean that Valtteri Bottas can count on contract extension with Mercedes. Team boss Toto Wolff has regularly indicated that he must choose between Ocon and the Finn when it comes to the spot next to Lewis Hamilton. Bottas has had a one-year deal three times in a row so far. ~~~~~~
The biggest loser of this scenario in this case is Nico Hülkenberg: the current three-year agreement between the German and Renault expires at the end of 2019, and although the 'Hulk' himself has recently indicated that he wants to stay, he will have to find another place if Ocon actually takes over his seat.
Watch and enjoy Kimi Raikkonen during his qualifying lap which earned him pole position in the inaugural Turkish Grand Prix #OnThisDay in 2005.
Raikkonen took pole with a 1.26.797 Fisichella surprisingly beat Alonso to 2nd with Montoya in 4th, 5 tenths down on his teammate. Trulli known for his one lap pace qualifies 5th ahead of the Williams of Heidfeld and Webber, the latter got blocked by Sato which moved Sato to the back of the grid. Massa followed in 8th ahead of Ralf Schumacher and Christian Klien. Ferrari had a dreadful Saturday, Barrichello only qualified 11th while Schumacher spun off and got a engine change which moved him to the back of the grid. Robert Doornbos who had been struggling to beat teammate Albers, didn't set a time when his rear brakes caught fire.
