The other day I alluded to the backstory of this piece. But as I’ve sat down to tell this story, I realize that it is not much of a story. It’s really pretty mundane in fact. As I recount what transpired when this piece came together, I realize it mostly had to do with finding myself in a liminal space on an ordinary Monday - not quite lost, but not quite found either. Exhausted, but not tired. Afraid, but just strong enough in the broken places, as Hemingway puts it. It had to do with pushing through crippling doubt and trying something that I had told myself a million times I’d never be able to do. I have to laugh to myself, sitting here, writing with such drama about a simple running stitch on musty old linens. A stitch that I’m certain many of you have mended and mastered a thousand times over. There is truly nothing new under the sun and this patchwork piece is no exception. But it is new to my hands. The way the linens fold face to face, come together with a few simple thread lines, and open into a perfectly imperfect tapestry feels like the life breath I’ve been gasping for for a very long time. * * * I can’t seem to stop the deluge of grateful tears that you, my friends, have honored it and borne witness to this journey. Your wise ideas, gentle encouragements, and generous truth-speaking root deep in me and have been the unseen birthplace of so many of my favorite artistic expressions. And a thank you as well to my creative matriarchs like @prophet_of_bloom and @spiritcloth and @petalplum for the inspiration to be passionate and fearless as I mend and dye and make. Love to you, each and every one. Xo K .
Today has been so glorious on the weather front here but I’ve felt weak and tired, although not contagious, I still have my lurgy so just some light propagation and tidying for me today....
Mooching in the sunshine is such a pleasure when you garden, it may never be perfect here but it’s definitely my little paradise! .....
So today, just some more Snowdrop and Hellebore spam..and why not?..the white ones will soon be departing but Hellebores are taking on the baton...
Pics in order...my first virescent Snowdrop purchased some years ago, slow but lovely Galanthus ‘Cowhouse Green’, the very first dark double Hellebore I produced now over 20 years old, Galanthus ‘Fieldgate Forte’ a late Snowdrop beautifully marked, my first slate grey single Hellebore that I produced, also antique now😂, classic greatorex double Snowdrop ‘Hippolyta’, fabulous pink spottted single Hellebore that appeared in the path this year, Galanthus ‘Doncaster’s Double Charmer’, ‘Trymposter’ and the first yellow single spotted Hellebore that I raised which now needs dividing...I shall do that in a few weeks’ time........
you know you can divide congested orientalis Hellebores in full flower without any loss of flower the following year...definitely less Diva like than special Snowdrops 😳...hope you’re all enjoying a wonderful weekend...
It’s truly amazing how you can always turn to nature for the most inspiring color palettes. We could totally take all the colors of these rocks and turn them into something beautiful ✨#mothernature#inspiredbynature_#petradeluna
Tilpassa mønsteret litt her og der, m.a la inn to innsnitt i ryggen. 🇬🇧This #essentialdenimdress from @laura_sewdifferent has been a slow sewing prosess, and I like it😊. Inspired by a photo of the fjord where I grew up, I found in my stock, blue linen and a green tablecloth (second hand) for my dress. I tried to add other fabrics too, but preferred it simple. I made some changes to the pattern, including two darts on the back. The dress is comfortable to wear 😊 #essentialdenimdress#sewover50#sewover60#synorge#syglede#gjenbruk#inspiredbynature_
When I need to think I walk. My best ideas seem to come when I’m walking alone in nature. I’m not sure exactly why this combination makes my brain light up. Maybe it’s the sounds, texture, or color.
Part of me thinks it’s actually the quiet that allows my brain to actually hear itself. I’m weird like that.
What inspires you?
