Did you know that northern Morocco was at one point part of the Roman Empire? It was, though it was called Mauretania back then - and and the city of Volubilis was its capital.
This city - with planned roads and a sewer system and heated bathroom floors (yes, really!) - is near present-day Meknes in Morocco. The area was originally settled by the Berbers, but was taken and built up by the Romans in the 1st century AD. They ruled it for a few hundred years, and it was inhabited for a few hundred more until the capital was moved to Fes.
Volubilis was then looted for building materials by Moroccan rulers, and further damaged by a big earthquake in 1755. It was only “rediscovered” in the late 1800s, and excavated and restored from 1915-1955.
Today, Volubilis is a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its incredibly intact mosaics. If you’ve been to Pompeii or other ruins in Italy, these might look familiar - except you won’t really find any of the crowds here in Morocco!
Do you like to visit historical ruins when you travel? Did you know that Morocco has Roman ruins?
quiet abstraction and order.
things make sense.
just for a moment.
the room dims.
then it’s back to wondering.
to walking around in question.
to taking it all in.
the love stories through the windows.
of coffee shops.
of clothing stores.
of overpriced restaurants.
all with insatiable curiosity.
the moment passes.
a new one begins.
the glow continues.

Day one with the new @sonyalpha was a true test of its durability. It’s nice having a small setup that I can pack even on days that I’m not “shooting”. Beacon, probe, shovel and camera.
So far so good. 📷🤓
The Mighty Saint Michel lighten up at night. This is chapel is not without a reason one of the most visit places in France. You could see it easily from miles away but also have to walk miles to get closer. (Don't be lazy and take the bus.)
I always do my best to maintain my usual morning routine when I’m on the road or backpacking—even when I need to wake up before the sun rises. I'm excited to share that @burtsbees has just released a new toothpaste line which I brought with me on my recent road trip to Idaho! So far my favorite is the Enamel Care Mountain Mint formula! There are a total of 3 formulas for adults and all of the toothpastes are formulated with simple, yet effective, ingredients and made without the things we don't want: no parabens, triclosan or artificial
This past week has literally been hell. The roughest and most testing week in my life as of yet. I'm still working through it but reminding myself to look to God for I know he shall provide my every need. Praying peace and joy over my life and others.
