In order to move forward in our life with a sense of purpose and fulfillment in whatever we do it takes a level of self-discipline to carry on.
Some of us call it motivation, however I like the word discipline because it comes from the word disciple; which means you are in a constant state of learning, surrendering to your ego and being obedient to the higher purpose.
There is an underlying tone of commitment with discipline that allows the action to follow through. You become a disciple of what you have chosen to commit to.
Having the energy to carry forward, inspire others on the way and develop good habits and let go of bad habits are all tactics for stronger self discipline.
What areas of your life do you believe you are self disciplined in?
The Woman of the Apocalypse in #Revelation 12 describes not just #Mary, but is also a symbol for the #Church as the New #Israel.
There are a series of parallels between Revelation 12 and John 19 (John’s account of the #Passion, with Mary and the Beloved #Disciple at the foot of the Cross); this is then taken to mean that both passages—John 19 and Revelation 12—are recounting in some sense the same event, the event of the Cross: one from an earthly vantage point (Jn 19) and the other from a heavenly vantage point (Rv 12). In both passages, we have:
• A “woman” (Rv 12:1; Jn 19:26)
• Mother of the Messiah (Rv 12:5; Jn 19:26)
• Mother of all Christians (Rv 12:17; Jn 19:26-27)
• Defeat of the Devil (Rv 12:7-12; Jn 12:23)
• Birth pangs (Rv 12:2; Jn 16:21)
The birth described in Revelation 12 may include elements of the #Nativity story, but also includes the #Cross as the birth that brings the People of God from the Old Covenant to the New and reconciles us back to God. In John 19, #Jesus refers to Mary as “woman” and entrusts her to the “beloved disciple”; and the beloved disciple takes her as his own mother. Traditionally, the beloved disciple has been understood as St. John; so why call himself the “beloved disciple”? The reason is because John sees his new relationship with Mary as not just pertaining to himself, but to all #Christians; he calls himself “beloved disciple” because in taking Mary as his spiritual mother he embodies all disciples. In John 19 on the Cross, Mary becomes the spiritual mother not just of John, but of all Christians. So, we have here in John 19 a “dual maternity,” of sorts—Mary is mother of Jesus and of all Christians. And similarly in Revelation 12, the woman is the mother of the #Messiah (Rv 12:5) and of all Christians: after describing the Woman as mother of the Messiah, the text goes on to describe the “rest of her offspring,” namely, “those who keep the commandments of God and bear testimony to Jesus” (Rv 12:17). In terms of Mary’s relationship to the Church, it’s best to say that Mary embodies the Church; she is an eschatological type of the Church.
Today we celebrate the Apostle Jude, the brother of the Lord. Saint Jude was a son of Saint Joseph’s late wife and is therefore considered the step brother of Jesus Christ. Initially not believing that Christ was the Messiah, he eventually became a fervent disciple and preached the gospel all over Arabia and Mesopotamia, and finally settling in the city of Edessa. His epistle is found in the New Testament under his name which he wrote while in Persia. Having suffered a martyr’s death, Saint Jude continues to work wonders for those who ask for his intercessions with faith. May he intercede for us always + #saint#jude#apostle#thaddaeus#jesus#christ#jesuschrist#disciple#persia#mesopotamia#arabia#brother#orthodox#sophia

|THE UNCOMMON TRUTH |
In his final moments on earth, Jesus commanded his followers to engage in the practice of making disciples. This command is what we like to call, “the great commission,” today, and most of us could even quote it verbatim. Yet a definition of terms is necessary to make sure our way of making disciples today matches with what Jesus had in mind. .
In this episode, the first in a multi-part series on discipleship, Max and Steve start with the basics: what is the definition of a disciple? Is a disciple just the title given to someone who has believed in Jesus? Is there a difference between the life of a disciple and that of “normal Christians?” What characteristics do disciples demonstrate? Before we go about making disciples, we need to make sure we understand what Jesus meant by the word.

Change, though not easy is needed to shift and transform where you’re at right now. Change the strategy not the goal.
If you want to move to a different level of your life, one you’ve never experienced before, you have to be willing to let go of the mindset of “I can’t do this, what if I fail” to “I will do what it takes to make this work, I know I’m called for more.”

The past few months have been some of the toughest but yet, most satisfying—emotionally and mentally—the two kinda go hand in hand.
I’ve learnt that just because my world presents choice doesn’t mean I even want to choose.
In my reluctance to choose, my heart wasn’t at peace and neither were my thoughts. I was unable to even express love to those who actually love and care about me because I was walking around SO tense—even mad at oxygen(it be like that sometimes) 😭
A reminder that I was being a fake yute in my actions vs| what I hoped to be kinda ticked me but it really opened my eyes. I realised this whole being a disciple thing isn’t always attractive and that stresses me, ‘cause I just wanna be the 'old me' too much sometimes.
However, every so often when life is getting on top of me and I’m ready to call quits ...I don’t know why—but God really comes through. I been listening to this song alllllllllll week; on Sunday I finally heard the words I been listening to.
God really loves us and in understanding the depth of Jeremiah 29:11—it’s enough to remind me that outside the Kingdom, their ain’t much in the world, for me personally anyways.
Still unlearning what the world screams and denying self. I don’t like it but God deserves the best of me.
Here’s to 2019 and becoming a better daughter, a better friend, a better disciple, a better artist, a better writer, a better lover of people.
Because in loving God and people, I hope I can find real peace. 💎
