Always love seeing a mark 2 Fiesta XR2.
It was the first 'proper' car I had, after all the nails I'd had before it. I had it as a company car for around 3 years from new back in 1987 and boy, at 22 I really did think I was the dogs danglies driving around in my old 'Red Roger'. Quite often wonder whatever happened to it - probably ended up in the old scrapyard.
Chevrolet 3100 (1+1a-1g) The “Advance Design” 💛❤️💛
(1954, Chevrolet 3100 Pickup ... The short story – extracts: Last year (2018), Chevrolet celebrated 100 years of Chevy truck history – I’ll tell a bit about the models from the start and until mid 50s, since the car in my photos are from 1954 ☺️
Chevrolet was Co-founded by race car driver Louis Chevrolet and GM founder William C. Durant in 1911. While Louis Chevrolet left the company in 1913, Chevrolet became part of General Motors in 1918, the same year Chevy’s first truck was released.
During the years from 1918 and until mid 50’s they e.g. produced the Series 490, Superior Series, Capitol, 1929 International Series and the 1931 Independent Series (the “Stovebolt engine era”), the 1938 Chevrolet Half-Ton from the post-depression/WW2 period – and then in 1947 and until 1955, they got to the Chevrolet’s first truck line postwar, the “Advance Design” pickups, which were one of the most notable models in the evolution of old Chevy pickup/trucks.
These trucks had a new look with a five-bar horizontal grille that was instantly recognizable. The inside of the cabin was also both longer/wider, with room for a third person in between the driver and passenger. Some additional comforts included e.g. an in-dash radio, fresh-air heater and defroster system, and corner windows. Underneath the hood was a 3,5 l “Thrift Master” overhead valve six-cylinder engine, capable of producing 90 hp.
There were three different truck sizes for the Advance Design series incl. a half ton (3100 Series), three-fourths ton (3600 Series), and one-ton model (3800 Series). Regardless of the model, the pickup boxes were 127 cm wide with wooden floors for each truck.
The next major change for the Advance Design trucks came in 1954, where the trucks got e.g. a new grille, steering wheel, instrument panel, parking lights, and a one-piece windshield as well as the engine power increased from 3,5 l to 3,8 l and capable of producing 112 hp.
From the creation of the first Chevy truck in 1918 to e.g. the new 2018 Silverado and Colorado Centennial editions, Chevy has come a long way from where it started so many years ago 💪)
