Kinetic Sand is a sand-like substance that is easily moldable, yet also free flowing. I love kinetic sand a lot! It was gifted to us on Max’s first birthday and this is one of our favorite games. We have blue kinetic sand by National Geographic, but I prefer natural colors and would recommend to buy sand that is a natural color.
What you need to start the game:
1. Put something on the floor, like a sheet or an old bathroom curtain. Yes, sand is a mess, especially for little ones.
2. Keep the sand in a box or container that you need to open before the game. I keep it in its original packaging, and before the game, Max always opens the box himself. Of course, the first few times it was difficult for him, but this is an important part of the game for fine motor skills development.
3. And then just enjoy the game! The child will squeeze the sand, squish it, smash it, poke it, pinch it, roll it into balls, scoop it, cut it and much more. The benefits for fine motor skills seem endless!
Kinetic sand has many benefits, such as the development of fine motor skills, sensory development, preparation for writing, development of speech and language, pretense and creative play. Moreover, it is incredibly fun!
Always supervise small children and pets around kinetic sand.
