# REPOST @meetarefugee //
It's been 85 days that our best friend @sarahezzatmardi has been in pre-trial detention. Trough @alextar93 's online platform @meetarefugee (GO FOLLOW) she wrote the following : "I left Lesvos a week after Sarah was detained. During that week my dear friend @claudiadrost and I would go visit Sarah in prison twice a day. That week was rough to say the least. Apparently in Greece only family members and lawyers are allowed to visit prisoners. Claudia and I spoke to the lawyers to make an arrangement for us to visit her, as Sarah has no family in Greece, and that we were her only family here. Our names were written in an infamous book and the police guards were made aware of this. Yet, every single time we tried to visit her, it would be a bureaucratic process to allow us to see her. It was a very dehumanizing experience trying to walk that fine line of defending your rights while still being polite towards the guards because any wrong move could jeopardize the ability of seeing your friend. I cried at numerous occasions because I felt like I had no voice, did not speak Greek, my friends were wrongfully detained, and I was powerless. On my last visit to Sarah I brought her a matching friendship bracelet, printed out a few photos and wrote her a letter.
My hope is that she looks at these memorable items anytime she feels alone and is empowered by knowing how hard we are all working to get them out. NOW : We have created a crowdfunding campaign to raise money to pay for the daily expenses of Sarah, Sean, and Nassos such as food, water, and telephone cards that allow them to communicate with the outside world. The money would also help cover the transportation costs of their families who visit them in the prisons of Athens and Chios and support their legal representation. Please help us by donating or sharing this link as widely as possible (link in bio)!!! Anything as little as 5€ counts! We truly appreciate the continued solidarity you have all shown⏳
